Irked over the action being taken against irresponsible BBMP officials by Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF), the workers of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) (municipal corporation) is on an indefinite strike from today. Right from road sweepers to white collar officials, thousand so employees are on strike.
Bangalore Wishesh reporter, who has been closing following the issue, has reported that as many as 11,000 engineers are among those who are on strike. Since, even sweepers and municipal workers too joined strike, the households should stop waiting for the worker to collect the garbage. And even if the garbage is dumped on roads, there will be none to collect the same.
Demands of BBMP apart, the sanitation-if goes for a toss-can claim thousands of lives in Garden City, which is known for its cleanliness. Already neighbouring city, Chennai is facing cholera threat and in case the government doesn't look into the issue swiftly, chances are likely for dreadful diseases such as cholera and diarrhea to outbreak in the city, said environmentalists.
